The blaze

The blaze chuckles as it whispers loud my name,
The horror in it's voice explains why I came,
I came to a place of many uncertainties and only one fact,
That death and destruction are the result if I turn back,
Fear isn't and option when others lives are at stake,
Their safety and protection effects the decisions we make,
The decision to fight, to survive, to succeed,
The desire to beat the blaze is part of me,
The part of me that thrives on conquering the fight,
The part of me that will never give up the fight,
Whether I die trying, or succeed in my quest to defend,
I'll always be a firefighter from now until the end.

My Daddy

My Daddy gives me a kiss as a way of saying good-bye,
My mommy gets a hug and a tear wiped from her eye,
My Daddy is going to work today but not like most Daddy's do,
My Daddy puts out fires to save both me and you,
Sometimes I'm really scared for him,
and I beg him not to go away,
But when those times happen,
my Mommy taught me this prayer to say,
"Oh Lord take care of my Daddy,
Let him see the flames up ahead,
Let him see through the thick black smoke,
Let him see the little one under the bed,
Protect him from the big red monster
that always tries to take him away,
And bring him home to me so I can hug him everyday."
